If you want to dance to Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish or Harry Styles on TikTok, you have a problem because these songs are no longer available on the platform. Videos in which these songs were previously used remain silent. Pretty stupid for a platform on which music plays such a big role. The reason for this is a dispute between the music label Universal and the platform TikTok. An agreement between the two platforms expired at the end of January and has not yet been renewed. Universal says: TikTok pays too little money to the musicians. And: TikTok is crowding out more and more artists with AI-generated music.

Grund dafür ist ein Streit zwischen dem Musiklabel Universal und der Plattform TikTok. Ende Januar ist eine Vereinbarung der beiden Plattformen ausgelaufen und wurde bisher nicht verlängert. Universal sagt: TikTok zahlt zu wenig Geld an die Musiker:innen. Und: TikTok verdrängt durch KI generierte Musik immer mehr Künstler:innen.
