Anfang September sorgte in der Kunstwelt die Vergabe eines Preises für großen Wirbel: Auf der „Colorado State Fair“ gewann der Spieledesigner Jason Allen mit seinem Werk „Théâtre D’opéra Spatial“ den ersten Platz in der Kategorie „digital arts/digitally-manipulated photography“. Mit ihr können eingeladene User*innen per Mausklick Kunstwerke erzeugen, indem sie Stichwörter eingeben, quasi Beschreibungen eines Wunschbildes. Aber nicht nur die Art und Weise des Kunstschaffens sorgt für Gesprächsstoff, auch die Datensätze, die dafür benutzt werden.

The controversy on the web was not over the image itself, however, but over the process by which it was created. Allen used the artificial intelligence “Midjourney” for this. With it, invited users can create works of art at the click of a mouse by entering keywords, quasi-descriptions of a desired image. But it’s not just the way in which the art is created that’s causing a stir, but also the data sets that are used for this purpose.
