Elvis Act to protect singers from AI voices
In April 2021, the European Commission proposed the so-called “AI Act”. It is intended to lay down rules for the use of artificial intelligence. Germany decided to approve the law in January 2024. Art is also part of it. However, it is not clear exactly how the act will be interpreted in the end. In music in particular, there are still some questions to be clarified, for example regarding training with data and therefore copyright. In the US state of Tennessee, the Senate already addressed another aspect of this in a new bill : the voice of singers. They are to be protected. Dennis Kastrup took a closer look at the “Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security” Act, or ELVIS for short.
Im April 2021 hat die Europäische Kommission den so genannten „AI Act“ vorgeschlagen. Es soll Regeln für die Verwendung von Künstlicher Intelligenz festlegen. Im Januar 2024 entschied sich Deutschland dafür, dem Gesetz zuzustimmen. Auch die Kunst ist ein Teil davon. Wie der Akt am Ende genau ausgelegt wird, ist aber nicht klar. Besonders in der Musik sind noch einige Fragen zu klären, was zum Beispiel das Trainieren mit Daten und somit das Urheberrecht angeht. Im US-amerikanischen Bundesstaat Tennessee hat sich der Senat schon im Januar in einem neuen Gesetzesvorschlag einem weiteren Teilgebiet davon gewidmet: Der Stimme von Sänger*innen. Sie soll geschützt werden. Dennis Kastrup hat sich den „Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security” Act, kurz ELVIS, genauer angeschaut.
